Well after a lovely bank holiday not only am I back to work but in our neck of the woods the children are back to school too.
All hands to the pump!
I was thinking about my team and also my eldest daughter and son in law who are back to school too today and began to consider the role or parents and the role of managers – a strange combination but then those who know me know that I do have an unusual way of looking at things!
Ephesians 6 v 4 says: “And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord”.
Just because he says “fathers,” he does not exclude mothers. Paul simply addresses the person with the overall responsibility.
Even though it is not directly said here, we must remember that God consistently teaches that the strong are responsible to care for the weak. In this context, the parents are strong, the children are weak. However, parents must not depend upon their size and strength to demand respect, but should strive to earn it through strength of character, wisdom, and clearly expressed love.
Now let’s map this last paragraph right on to a Manager and his/her team. This is how I need to be with my team at work!
So for those who have managerial responsibility, let’s consider this carefully as we move into Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday etc…..
